IMPORTANT: Carefully read these Terms & Conditions (the “Agreement”) before using the vehicle renewal registration services (the “Services”) available at https://goldkeyregistry.com (the “Site”).
The Agreement creates a binding legal agreement between you (“you”, “your”) and Gold Key Registry Ltd. (“Gold Key Registry”, and together with you, each a “Party” and collectively, the “Parties”) regarding your use of the Site and Services.
BY SELECTING “YES”, YOU ARE INDICATING: (i) YOUR ACCEPTANCE TO BE BOUND BY THIS AGREEMENT AND (ii) YOUR CONSENT TO A REGISTRY AGENT LOOKING UP INFORMATION RELATED TO YOUR PRIOR TRAFFIC CONVICTIONS AND INFRACTIONS. THIS INFORMATION IS SECURELY STORED SO THAT IT MAY BE USED FOR FUTURE REQUESTS, DATA COLLECTION AND RESEARCH. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO RENEW YOUR VEHICLE REGISTRATION IF YOU HAVE UNPAID FINES OR TRAFFIC CONVICTIONS; YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY ANY UNPAID FINES OR TRAFFIC CONVICTION FEES PRIOR TO ANY VEHICLE REGISTRATION RENEWAL.
IF YOU ARE ENTERING THIS AGREEMENT ON BEHALF OF A COMPANY OR OTHER LEGAL ENTITY, YOU REPRESENT THAT YOU HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO BIND SUCH ENTITY TO THIS AGREEMENT, IN WHICH CASE, THE TERMS “YOU”, OR “YOUR” WILL REFER TO SUCH ENTITY. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SUCH AUTHORITY, OR IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS AGREEMENT, YOU MUST NOT ACCEPT THIS AGREEMENT AND MAY NOT USE THE SERVICES.
BY ENTERING INTO THIS AGREEMENT YOU ARE ALSO AGREEING THAT ALL INFORMATION PROVIDED BY YOU TO GOLD KEY REGISTRY PURSUANT TO THIS AGREEMENT IS ACCURATE AND CORRECT TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE. INCORRECT OR INACCURATE INFORMATION MAY RESULT IN THE NON-RENEWAL OF YOUR REGISTRATION, OR THE CANCELLATION OF YOUR ACCESS TO THE SERVICES.
For information about how Gold Key Registry collects, uses and discloses your personal information, please review its Privacy Policy located at https://goldkeyregistry.com/privacy-policy (the “Privacy Policy”), as amended from time to time.
For the purposes of this Agreement and the Privacy Policy, “personal information” is any information about an identifiable individual, as defined in the Privacy Policy.
Gold Key Registry may amend any part of this Agreement or the Privacy Policy by adding, deleting, or varying their contents from time-to-time in its discretion. Gold Key Registry will provide you with notice of any proposed amendments by posting an amended version of this Agreement or the Privacy Policy with an updated date on the Site. You must agree with the newest version of this Agreement in order to continue use the Services.
If you disagree with any amendments to this Agreement or the Privacy Policy, you may terminate this Agreement by ceasing to use the Site and Services. There is no cost or penalty for terminating. If you continue using the Site and Service, then by your continued use, you are considered to have accepted any and all amendments to the Agreement.
Vehicle Registration Renewals
Online renewals may not be available for all types and classes of vehicles. Gold Key Registry reserves the right to decline to provide online vehicle registration renewal for any reason. If your vehicle registration is not renewable online, you will need to visit a registry agent to have your registration renewed.
The information you provide to Gold Key Registry to facilitate the renewal of your vehicle’s registration must match the current information applicable to that vehicle in the Motor Vehicle System. If any of the applicable information has changed (for example, your address, name, or vehicle) you will not be able to use the Services without first visiting a registry agent for help.

Fees & Refunds
When you renew your vehicle registration in Alberta online, in addition to the registration renewal fees charged by your registry agent (the “Renewal Fees”), you will be charged: (i) a processing fee of $7 for each vehicle renewal (the “Technology Fee” or “Processing Fee”); and (ii) if applicable, 4% of any outstanding unpaid fines and traffic conviction fees (the “Outstanding Fines”, and together with the Renewal Fees and the Technology Fee, the “Fees”).
Upon your payment of Fees, the following refund policies apply:
i) Renewal Fees refunds are at the discretion of the applicable registry agent, until your vehicle registration renewal has been sent to the Government of Alberta for finalization, at which point Renewal Fees are non-refundable.
ii) The Technology Fee or Processing Fee is non-refundable.
iii) Outstanding Fines are non-refundable.
Gold Key Registry does not process payments on its own. The payments services that facilitate the payment of Fees are provided by Gold Key Registry’s third-party payment processor, Stripe, Inc. (“Stripe”) and are subject to Stripe’s Terms of Service (https://stripe.com/en-ca/ssa). You agree that Stripe, not Gold Key Registry, is responsible. You understand that Gold Key Registry and Stripe are separate entities. Stripe is and independent contractors, and not an agent, representative, partner, joint venturer or employee of the Gold Key Registry.
Registration Certificates
A vehicle registration certificate proving that a vehicle is currently registered (a “Registration Certificate”), will be issued to you if and when (i) your Fees have been successfully paid, and (ii) the vehicle registration transaction has been successfully processed. A copy of the Registration Certificate will be mailed to the registered address you provide to Gold Key Registry.
License plate expiry stickers are no longer required in Alberta as of January 1, 2021, and they will not be available for delivery.
Warranty Disclaimer
THE SITE AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES, REPRESENTATIONS OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND. GOLD KEY REGISTRY HEREBY DISCLAIMS ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED, COLLATERAL OR STATUTORY WARRANTIES, REPRESENTATIONS OR CONDITIONS, WHETHER WRITTEN OR ORAL, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, SECURITY, RELIABILITY, COMPLETENESS, ACCURACY, QUALITY, INTEGRATION OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. GOLD KEY REGISTRY DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE AND SERVICES WILL OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION OR BE ERROR FREE. GOLD KEY REGISTRY EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY THAT ANY DATA OR INFORMATION PROVIDED TO YOU IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SITE AND SERVICES IS ACCURATE, OR CAN OR SHOULD BE RELIED UPON BY YOU FOR ANY PURPOSE WHATSOEVER.
GOLD KEY REGISTRY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTS OR OMISSIONS OF, OR FOR THE FAILINGS OF, ANY THIRD-PARTY PROVIDER, SERVICE, NETWORK, SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS, HOSTING SERVICES UTILIZED BY PROVIDER, TELECOMMUNICATIONS PROVIDERS, THE REGISTRAR OF MOTOR VEHICLES, OR ANY SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE NOT PROVIDED BY GOLD KEY REGISTRY.
Limitation of Liability
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL A PARTY’S TOTAL LIABILITY, OR A PARTY’S PROVIDERS’, SUPPLIERS’, OR LICENSORS’ TOTAL LIABILITY, FOR ANY AND ALL CLAIMS IN THE AGGREGATE IN CONNECTION WITH OR UNDER THIS AGREEMENT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF FEES PAID OR PAYABLE BY YOU TO GOLD KEY REGISTRY IN THE 3 MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE THE CAUSE OF ACTION FIRST AROSE. FOR GREATER CERTAINTY, THE EXISTENCE OF ONE OR MORE CLAIMS UNDER THIS AGREEMENT WILL NOT INCREASE THIS MAXIMUM LIABILITY AMOUNT.
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL EITHER PARTY, OR THEIR SUPPLIERS, PROVIDERS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE TO THE OTHER PARTY FOR ANY (I) SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, (II) LOST SAVINGS, PROFIT, DATA, USE OR GOODWILL, (III) BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, EVEN IF NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE OF SUCH POSSIBILITY, OR (IV) PERSONAL OR PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING OUT OF OR IN ANY WAY CONNECTED TO THIS AGREEMENT, REGARDLESS OF CAUSE OF ACTION OR THE THEORY OF LIABILITY, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE, GROSS NEGLIGENCE, FUNDAMENTAL BREACH, BREACH OF A FUNDAMENTAL TERM) OR OTHERWISE. IN NO EVENT SHALL GOLD KEY REGISTRY BE LIABLE FOR PROCUREMENT OR COSTS OF SUBSTITUTE PRODUCTS OR SERVICES.
THE SITE AND SERVICES MAY PROVIDE ACCESS TO THIRD PARTY WEBSITES, SERVICES AND SOFTWARE. YOUR USE OR INTERACTION WITH ANY SUCH WEBSITES, SERVICES OR SOFTWARE IS ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK. GOLD KEY REGISTRY DOES NOT CONTROL SUCH THIRD PARTIES, WEBSITES, SERVICES OR SOFTWARE. GOLD KEY REGISTRY AND ITS SUPPLIERS, PROVIDERS AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND BY INCURRED BY YOU OR ANYONE ELSE AS THE RESULT OF INTERACTIONS OR DEALINGS WITH SUCH THIRD PARTIES, WEBSITES, SERVICES OR SOFTWARE. IN THE EVENT THAT GOLD KEY REGISTRY DOES BECOME LIABLE, THE LIMITATIONS SET OUT ABOVE WILL ALSO APPLY WITH RESPECT TO ANY DAMAGES INCURRED BY REASON OF ANY WEBSITE, SERVICES, SOFTWARE OR CONTENT PROVIDED BY ANY THIRD PARTY AND RECEIVED BY YOU.
THE PROVISIONS OF THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY SECTION SHALL NOT APPLY TO THE EXTENT THAT THE CAUSE OF ACTION GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM ARISES FROM:
i) CLAIMS FOR FEES OWED TO GOLD KEY REGISTRY UNDER THIS AGREEMENT AND ANY COST, EXPENSE OR FEES INCURRED IN COLLECTION OF SUCH FEES; OR
ii) LOSSES ARISING AS A RESULT OF A PARTY’S GROSS NEGLIGENCE, WILLFUL MISCONDUCT OR FRAUD.
Collection and Use of Personal Information
In order to provide the Services to you, Gold Key Registry is required by law to collect certain personal information from you, including but not limited to your:
i. email address and/or phone number;
ii. full name and home address;
iii. license plate number;
iv. driver license number; and
v. insurance information.
To facilitate the renewal of your vehicle registration, Gold Key Registry shares the above information with the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. In accordance with the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), Operator Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation, and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (S.33) for motor vehicle services, the Registrar of Motor Vehicles collects personal information for the following purposes: to confirm the identity and eligibility of an individual for motor vehicle services and for motor vehicle records held by motor vehicles; investigation and enforcement; and for contact information, including the residential address in order or the personal serving of documents under the TSA. Questions pertaining to the use of your personal information by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles can be directed by mail to Alberta Registries, Box 3140, Edmonton, AB T5J 2G7 or by telephone to 780-427-7013, or toll free at 310-0000 (within Alberta).
To the extent Gold Key Registry collects any personal Information from you, it will be used, collected, stored and disclosed for the purposes contemplated under this Agreement and in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
Gold Key Registry may use the information you provide to communicate with you regarding additional products and services offered by your registry agent. You can withdraw your consent to receiving these communications at any time by clicking “Unsubscribe” at the bottom of such communication, or by contacting your registry agent. Doing so may have a material impact on our ability to provide any Services to you, and we are not responsible if you do so.
General
If there is any dispute between you and Gold Key Registry about or involving this Agreement, the Site or the Services, you hereby agree that the dispute will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Each of the Parties hereby attorns to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the Province of Alberta, agrees that any action related to this Agreement must be brought in a court in the Province of Alberta, and waives any objection it has or may have in the future with respect to any of the foregoing.
The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply to this Agreement.
If any portion of this Agreement is deemed unlawful, void or unenforceable by court of competent jurisdiction, this Agreement as a whole will not be deemed unlawful, void or unenforceable, but only that portion of this Agreement that is unlawful, void or unenforceable will be stricken from this Agreement.
You agree that if Gold Key Registry does not exercise or enforce any legal right or remedy which is contained in the Agreement (or which Gold Key Registry has the benefit of under any applicable law), this will not be taken to be a formal waiver of Gold Key Registry’s rights and that those rights or remedies will still be available to Gold Key Registry.
The sections of “Warranty Disclaimer”, “Limitation of Liability”, “Collection and Use of Personal Information”, and “General” will survive any actual or purported termination or expiry of this Agreement and continue in full force and effect.
This Agreement is the entire agreement between you and Gold Key Registry related to the subject matter in this Agreement. This Agreement replaces and supersedes any other prior or contemporaneous agreement, representation or discussion, oral or written, and may not be changed except in writing signed by Gold Key Registry.
